Registered Massage Therapy

What can I expect during my massage therapy visit?

Your therapist will do a quick interview and assessment of your symptoms to be able to create a safe and effective individualized treatment plan for you. During massage, feel free to let your therapist know of any pain or discomfort you may be experiencing to help her adjust or change her pressure or technique. After massage, your therapist may give you home care exercises, heat or cold therapy, or even suggestions to help with your activities of daily living.

Do I need a doctor’s note to see an RMT?

As Registered Massage Therapy in British Columbia is a recognized healthcare profession, you do not need a doctor’s note to seek treatment from an RMT. However, some insurance providers including RCMP require a doctor’s note when submitting a claim. Please contact your insurance provider to confirm.

Is there any insurance coverage for my massage therapy treatment?

Most British Columbians may be covered for Registered Massage Therapy through their workplace group insurance plan, MSP (Medical Services Plan), WorkSafe BC, ICBC, Veterans Affairs (DVA) and RCMP.

Do you do direct billing?

Kinesiology / Exercise Therapy

What should I expect during my initial Kinesiology assessment?

During your initial assessment, your Kinesiologist will ask you questions to gain a better understanding of your current situation and what your goals are. Then, your Kinesiologist will assess your posture, range of motion, movement patterns, strength, and endurance. You may be asked to perform certain exercises as part of the assessment. The information gathered during your initial session will be used to create a program that caters to your needs and goals.

What should I expect during ongoing Kinesiology sessions?

During ongoing exercise therapy sessions, your Kinesiologist will guide you through a series of specific exercises that will help improve your movement. Your Kinesiologist will continuously communicate with you to ensure that you feel safe and comfortable and that exercises are done properly to maximize benefits and minimize the risk of injury.

How do I prepare for my Kinesiology sessions?

Wear comfortable athletic/athleisure clothing that you can move and exercise in. Prepare to talk about your current limitations, past injuries, history of treatment, and goals.

How will Kinesiology support/benefit my wellness goals?

Kinesiologists are movement specialists. They are equipped with evidence-based approaches to prescribe exercises that enhance your performance, recover from injuries/weaknesses, reduce pain, and increase mobility. Your Kinesiologist will provide you with the education, tools, and skills that are necessary to overcome your physical limitations. Kinesiologists work with a variety of clients, ranging from post-operative folks going through recovery to athletes dealing with a nagging old injury to elderly folks who want to maintain their strength and coordination. As long as you have a desire to move better, Kinesiology is for you.
